Farai (Soul Afro)

Singer/songwriter/poet & producer, Farai was born & raised in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe. This diverse town certainly permeated into his consciousness as his mu- sical creativity was constantly exposed to different cultures & dialects. He wro- te his first song aged 10 and signed to Overdrive Recordings in Zimbabwe at the age of 17. Armed with his ambition he left Zimbabwe to pursue music in the UK, where he started singing in other bands before partnering up with producer Eric Dyson to form Deep Afrik Music. It didn’t take long for them to spawn hits such as the ZAA nominated ‘My Way’ as well as featuring on other projects notably ZAR’s single ‘Smile’, which had an astonishing 410,000 YouTube views in 4 weeks!

Despite these early successes he yearned for a ‘bigger sound’ and knew just how to get it. In Septem- ber 2013, he brought together a group of his good friends and it was at this point that Farai and the Fo- rest Dawn was formed. Together, they create what Farai likes to call ‘richly melodic, retro-futurist Afro-Soul pop music’. This 5 piece band’s known for their infectious energy in their live shows and cou- pled with his distinct voice led them to win Be On The Scene’s ‘Battle of the Bands’ competition troun- cing 50 bands over a 15 week process. This process helped perfect their sound and are current- ly working on an EP to be released soon. Their influences include Lauryn Hill, Salif Keita and Coldplay.
